The multiple-box Advanced Search in Discover is now easier to find.

Once you get into Discover, you'll see a link to Advanced Search just below the single-box Basic Search:

The Advanced Search is useful for searching on synonyms of keywords at the same time, and selecting different fields to search in, such as the title or abstract:

The Library block in Stream has been updated to include the Discover search box. Students can now search for articles, books and other material at the same time, all from within the paper site.

Students
If you wish to add the new Library block to your 'Overview of my courses' Stream page, click on 'Edit this page' in the top right corner. If you already have the old Library block (with a library catalogue search box) in the left hand column, delete it. Then at the bottom of the column, you can add the 'Massey Library' block:

The process is similar for adding the block to paper sites. Full instructions are in the latest Stream News. Note that this block is not intended to replace any Library blocks that have been specifically tailored for the paper.

From discussions with students over the past couple of weeks, it appears there's confusion about how the folder in Discover is supposed to work. Students add items to a folder, but are finding the folder empty when they next go in to Discover.
To keep items in your folder between searching sessions, you need to sign up with Discover as an individual using the Sign In link in the blue tool bar top right.

This is different from Log In in the pale yellow box above your results. Log In just recognizes you as a Massey student with the right to access articles.

Are you having trouble getting to the full text of some articles in Discover results? Massey Library doesn't hold everything that Discover finds. If you'd like to see just the ones that we do have, then tick one of the full text boxes in the left hand column:

If you need scholarly articles, tick that box too, and refine by date while you're about it. Now you should be able to get to the full text of all the results. No more chasing items we don't have!
