This joins our growing list of short demonstrations which appear throughout the Library website.

BONUS+ now gives you free access to 6 million books from 10 Australian University libraries, with another joining mid-2011. If we don't have the book you need, or it's out, then chances are that BONUS+ can supply it to you. Massey is the only NZ library that has access to this scheme.

Massey students and staff are making increasing use of BONUS+, particularly to support research. 72% of requests are from postgraduate students and staff. 75% of requests are for titles we don't hold, showing the advantages of having access to a larger collection.

Interlibrary loan, the service that borrows items from other libraries for $5 per item, has reduced markedly for books since the introduction of BONUS+.

In return we send books to Australia. The most requested ones are from our social sciences collection, followed by medicine and business, then art and design books from our specialist Wellington collection.

Students commented in the University's student satisfaction survey that:

Massey students and staff now have access to over 6 million items through BONUS+. Ten Australian University libraries now belong to BONUS+ along with Massey, the only New Zealand University Library to participate.

• 'facebook' in Massey's Encore catalogue gives 23 results (at the time of writing this)
• 'facebook' in BONUS+ gives 75 results (maybe more by the time you read this) - and you can request any of the available ones for free.

It's very easy to search BONUS+ from within Massey's catalogue. Just search the Library Catalogue as usual, then if the title or topic you want is not available – either because we don’t own it, or it is out on loan – click on the BONUS+ button on the same page to automatically search the shared Catalogue. Or alternatively, search the BONUS+ Catalogue directly for your title or topic.

Requested items usually arrive here in 7-10 days. Books are issued for 21 days, and may be renewed once if not required by another borrower. Staff and postgraduate students can have up to 10 BONUS+ items requested/issued at once, and undergraduate students up to 5 items.
