Massey Profile Installer
by Chris Good, Sciences Librarian, College Liaison
The Massey Profile Installer is what the library uses to manage EndNote settings and files so that it works smoothly with our resources. It is regularly updated to ensure smooth performance - so it is a good idea to download and run it every 3 to 6 months or so.
It is available for both Windows PCs, or Mac machines running versions X4 or X3. Mac users should also check out our tips for Mac users post.
If you encounter any persistent issues, feel free to contact the Library.
Discover: Import Filter Request
by Chris Good, Sciences Librarian, College Liaison
Occasionally when exporting records from Discover or other EbscoHost database you may be prompted to specify an Import Filter to be used . If this happens, choose the RefMan RIS filter from the list.
For instructions on exporting from Discover to EndNote, see the the EbscoHost section on page 8 of the Introductory EndNote handout.
What Do I Do With Conference Papers?
by Chris Good, Sciences Librarian, College Liaison
The Conference Paper and Conference Proceedings reference types in EndNote are intended for unpublished verbal presentations of papers/proceedings. These will not display correctly for published conference papers. These are most commonly entered as a Book Section - when the papers are from a book(s). See the example below.
Occasionally conference papers may be published as part of a regular series with volume/issue and page numbers (eg: like for the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) - in which case they can alternatively be entered as Journal Articles.
How Do I Edit Reports In APA 6th Style?
by Chris Good, Sciences Librarian, College Liaison
It can be difficult to know where to enter data to get reports to display correctly. Below is an example report. Enter relevant information as required from your own report(s) into the same fields as in the screenshot below. (You may not need to use all these fields.)
EndNote X4: Slow Citation Insertion
by Chris Good, Sciences Librarian, College Liaison
Slow insertion of citations can be a problem - especially with long documents. This is in part because by default EndNote X4 not only inserts the bibliography (as in previous versions) - but also creates a hidden hyperlink from each citation to its reference. This considerably increases the processing involved.
Endnote X4: New Version. New Massey Webpage.
by Chris Good, Sciences Librarian, College Liaison

EndNote X4 has arrived and is now the officially supported version of EndNote at Massey. To this end the Library has launched a redesigned and streamlined EndNote webpage.
The main new features of EndNote X4 are:
- Word 2010/2011 compatibility. (Users of earlier EndNote versions need to upgrade if they move to Office 2010/2011.)
- Direct PDF importing. Individual pdf files or folders of pdfs can be imported. Where possible, EndNote creates new records from the information embedded in the pdf.
- Automatic hyperlinking of citations to their reference in a document
- Plus more
Note:
- It is important to uninstall any previous versions of EndNote before installing X4.
- Mac users should download and run our Massey Profile Installer for Mac X4 immediately after install to enable Massey functionality. We also provide tips for Mac users for best performance.
Word 2010 (or Word 2011 for Mac)
by Chris Good, Sciences Librarian, College Liaison
EndNote versions X3 (or earlier) are incompatible with Word 2010/2011. Consequently users are advised to purchase a copy of EndNote X4 (which is compatible) from ITS by downloading the relevant form.
How Do I Move A Library Between Computers?
by Chris Good, Sciences Librarian, College Liaison
There are several ways to do this - each with advantages and disadvantages. The following assume you are using a USB memory stick between machines. EndNote libraries can be read by different EndNote versions, as well as on different operating systems (Mac OS or Windows). For computers on a shared network - place the EndNote Library in a location accessible to the desired machines.
How Do I Safely Remove, Move Or Modify Citations?
by Chris Good, Sciences Librarian, College Liaison
Removing or Moving Citations
It is very important that EndNote citations are not deleted, moved or edited using Word. This is to minimise the chance or of corrupting your document or library. Instructions for safely editing citations for Word 2010/2007 and Word 2003/Mac versions are in the Introductory EndNote handout.
